Pithora Painting
Pithora painting is a traditional folk art form from the Rathwa and Bhilala tribal communities in Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh, India. Deeply embedded in the cultural and spiritual life of these tribes, Pithora paintings are vibrant, colorful, and rich in symbolism. Typically created on the walls of village homes, these artworks are integral to ritualistic practices, often commissioned to seek blessings from the deity Pithora Baba. The paintings depict scenes from daily life, nature, animals, and deities, reflecting the community’s beliefs and stories. The creation of a Pithora painting is a communal activity, led by the tribal priest, involving natural colors and spontaneous, rhythmic designs that encapsulate the collective memory and oral traditions of the tribes.
